November Birthday Wednesday - November 4th

 

We'll be celebrating the November birthdays for our staff on Wednesday, November 4th. 

There will be sweet treats in the morning and the afternoon for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to wish a Happy Birthday to your colleagues who are celebrating birthdays this month. 

Daylight Saving Time Ends on Sunday, November 1st

 

Just a quick reminder Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend. This is the time where we "Fall Back". Remember to set any manual clocks, such as the microwave, stove, car, alarm clock back by one hour on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Most folks won't be affected by this as your electronic devices should change automatically. 

Library Staff Activity - Trick or Treat Bags

 

Since everyone loves candy, but we don’t really “Trick or Treat” as adults, we’re going to have a fun staff activity involving creating Halloween Trick or Treat bags.

Participation in this activity is strictly voluntary.

Between October 15 and October 27, each person may decorate a trick or treat bag for Halloween. Supplies to decorate bags can be found on the table in the back office. You are encouraged to decorate bags during a work shift, so get one of us to help cover the desk for you. Please be creative in your decorating, but vulgarity is discouraged. Once bags are decorated, they will be places along the back table.

Between October 28 & October 31, anyone who wishes to may put some candy or treats inside the bags. IF you choose to participate in this part, please bring enough items for everyone’s bag. There are 25 people working at the library. The overall goal is fun, creativity & enjoyment.

Starting October 31, you may take your bag with you. Make sure your bag is taken by Thanksgiving Break.

Since not everyone may make a bag, any extra candy that might be left over will be put in a bowl, so everyone may help themselves.

Fall Break 2026 - Important Information for All Library Staff

 

Since Mother Nature has finally decided to grace us with cooler temperatures, we're going remind you about IU Fall Break coming up on October 8th-October 11th. 

Library hours during that time are:

Thursday, October 8th      8:00am to 10:00pm

Friday, October 9th          Closed

Saturday, October 10th    Closed

Sunday, October 11th      12:00pm to 12Midnight

What does this mean for you as library staff?

---Library staff are not required to work on days the library is closed.

---Since the library is open regular hours on Thursday (8th) & Sunday (11th), library staff will need to plan on working or posting sub notice(s) for shifts those days.

We appreciate all you do here at Business/SPEA and we wish you some enjoyable time off!

October Birthday Wednesday - October 7th

Lost & Found Water Bottles - Please Empty Before Putting on File Cabinet

 

Any time beverage bottles (coffee or water) are turned into our Lost & Found, please take the time to empty any liquid out before putting the bottle on top of the file cabinet. Believe Jeri when she says there's nothing worse than finding spoiled coffee plus creamer inside of one at the end of the semester. 🙁

Above & Beyond Winner - Mandi

We are happy to announce Mandi as one of our Above & Beyond Award winners from the Fall 2026 All-Staff Meeting.  As a winner of this award, Mandi will receive a certificate and a gift card from Target.

Mandi was nominated by Gary.

Here's what Gary said in the nomination: "Mandi is the definition of a self-starter. She set the bar high just two months into her role by independently organizing and moderating a statewide panel on handling difficult patron interactions.

More recently, though, she has taken on several big behind-the-scenes projects with unmatched enthusiasm and efficiency. Over the summer, she braved the blazing heat to conduct on-site circulation interviews at small libraries across the campus. She audited 770 individual items on our media reserves shelf to ensure our inventory was accurate, and systematically examined course rosters for both Kelley and O'Neill so our research guides were fully updated for Fall. Mandi tackles even the most tedious tasks with a level of joy and grace that makes the hardest work look effortless, and we are so proud to present her with the Above and Beyond Award!"
