Graduating Student Spotlight - Hunter Minser

As the end of the semester approaches, we’d like to take the opportunity to highlight our graduating student employees. This fall, Hunter Minser is our lone graduating student employee.

This is a bittersweet moment for us as we will miss him terribly, but we wish him much success in the future. His contributions to our library during his time here have been invaluable to the success of our library and appreciated more than he knows.

So with all of that being said, we think you should hear from Hunter in his own words. We’ve asked him to answer a few questions about his time here at the Business/SPEA Library.

Where are you from?
I am from Fort Wayne, IN

How long have you worked at the Business/SPEA Library?
I have worked at the Business/SPEA Library since my sophomore year in 2020.

What is your position here at the library?
I worked as a PSA at the front desk until becoming a master's student and then moved over to working the reference desk.

What did you enjoy about working at the library?
I enjoyed all of the people at the library the most. Working over the years and meeting different people and spending my shifts with them was probably my favorite part. I also enjoyed getting to see a bit more of behind the scenes on how a library operated which did inspire me to get my master's in library science.

Do you have a favorite memory of the library, Indiana University or Bloomington you’d like to share?
My favorite memory of Indiana University actually comes from my freshman year. I had a bunch of friends from high school who went to Purdue. That year, the IU/Purdue football game was at Purdue, so some friends and I went to Purdue and stayed with our friends. As a big group we all went to the game and just being there as an IU fan and all the heckling and everything was so much fun. IU ended up winning the game in overtime which just made it that much sweeter.

What’s your degree & major?
I got my bachelor's degree in History and am now graduating with my master's degree in Library Science.

What are your plans after leaving IU?
I plan on moving back to Fort Wayne after I graduate to be back around my family. I have applied to work for the local public library system as well as the local ambulance service so we will see what ends up happening in that regard.

Any farewell thoughts that you’d like to share?
I wish everyone a great college experience. Know that I will miss everyone here that I have become friends with over the years. It has truly been a great time working here at the Business/SPEA Library.

Thank you, Hunter for being a part of the Business/SPEA Library team. Congratulations & Best Wishes in the future!

Important End of Semester Reminders for Library Staff

1. As we approach the end of the semester, it’s a good idea to remind everyone the fall semester goes until Friday, December 20th at 5:00pm. You are expected to work your shifts or find a sub during that time.

2. Final Exams - It’s also a good idea to double-check your final exam schedule since final exams don’t always happen during your regularly scheduled class time. Make sure you’re not going to have a conflict between your final exam and your work schedule. If so, please put a sub notice up as soon as possible.

3. Extra Hours - If you want to pick up some extra hours, earn some extra money and have the availability from now through finals week, please keep your eyes on the subs list and help us out when you are able. We will really appreciate it.

4. If you are returning from break early (before January 13th) and are interested in some extra hours, reach out to us and see about availability from January 2nd-12th. The library is open Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm during that time.

5. Spring Semester 2025 starts on January 13th. So, that means regular library hours and your spring semester work schedule start that day.

6. Questions – If you have any questions, please reach out to a supervisor.

Lastly, as part of Kelley Balance Week, there will be service dogs in training visiting the library on Tuesday December 9th from 10am to Noon and Wednesday December 10th from 1pm to 3pm. Stop by, if you need to destress by petting a dog.

Here’s to a great end of the semester! Good Luck on your Final Exams & Projects!
