Our Graduates: Carol Recinos

Our congratulations go to Carol, a graduating senior from Elkhart with a major in Public Management.  Carol has been a valued member of our staff since the fall of 2011, and is a recipient of this semester’s Caught in the Act award.

Carol states she stayed with the IC these years because of the welcoming work environment provided by its supervisors.  She remembers many hilarious conversations with co-workers and supervisors, and those conversations sometimes enticed her to stay around after her shifts ended just to talk.  She admits she is also drawn to the IC for the finals week care packages, the random snacks, and Terry’s cupcakes.

So what does the future hold for her?  We’re fortunate to keep her on our staff this summer while she studies for the GRE.  She plans to take a year away from school to work before starting a master’s program in 2016.  She has an endless list of places on the planet she would like to visit including South America, southern Europe, and southeast Asia so she also hopes to get some traveling in before she becomes a “grown-up.”

She advises us to work hard, but to also take some time to be spontaneous.  She encourages us to talk to random people, explore new restaurants, and travel to strange places so we’ll have experiences to remember for the rest of our lives.

Carol says she is really thankful for the opportunity to work at the IC, and we are so very thankful to have had her on our staff.  We’re glad we get to keep her with us for a few more months, and hope to share some more laughs and interesting conversations with her.  Congratulations on your graduation, Carol, and on a job so very well done!

And This Semester's Caught in the Act Awards Go To...

We are happy to announce that  Anastasia and Carol are this semester's Caught in the Act Award recipients.  We recognize them for the outstanding service they have given our guests this semester.

Anastasia, a graduating senior, earned the award by her careful attention to our guests and by her steady adherence to the IC's policies.

Carol, another graduating senior, is recognized for her innovative idea that was of benefit to our guests.












BUSP has been fortunate to have these two outstanding individuals on its staff.  They each received a Target gift card as our show of appreciation.  Thank you Carol and Anastasia!

Our Graduates: Cesar Silva

Congratulations to Cesar, a senior from Indy graduating with a major in Spanish Literature and a minor in Latino Studies.  Cesar joined our staff in the summer of 2013.  He left us for a while when he was one of a group of IU students chosen to travel in China.  We were glad to welcome him back and hear his stories upon his return.  This year he introduced us to his cousin, Jose, who is also now a part of our staff.  Cesar's favorite times at BUSP include the Saturdays he spent working with Jose.  

Cesar leaves you with these words of wisdom as he moves on:  "It's all about the game, and how you play it." We know Cesar as someone who plays the game well.

He has been bitten by the travel bug.  His immediate plans upon his graduation include working for IU's Office of International Services and doing some more traveling.  Maybe we'll get to hear some more stories, Cesar? We hope so.  Safe travels to you, and may all your roads be smooth.

 

 

Our Graduates: Kayla Rode

 

Our congratulations go to Kayla, a graduating senior from Avon with a major in Business Marketing and Operations Management and a minor in Event Planning.  Kayla joined our staff as a freshman, and she has come a long way since then.  She won our Caught in the Act Award during her sophomore year, and as a junior she was promoted to our Senior Circulation Assistant position.  Also during her junior year, she was nominated by the I.C. staff and named Indiana University's Student Employee of the Year.

Kayla considers meeting and knowing her co-workers and supervisors to be the best part of her BUSP experience.  She claims the patience shown to her and the flexibility offered by her position made her college life a little less stressful.  She hopes you will take the time to get to know the people around you, especially your supervisors and other staff members.  She believes it will make working here much more enjoyable.  She says you don't really know what you have in common with someone else unless you make the effort to find out.  

After graduation, Kayla will be heading to St. Louis where she will be working for Anheuser-Busch.  She'll be there for six months as a Sales Management Training, then she'll be transferred to another location for her first official position.  Kayla has accomplished much in her four years at IU and the IC, but we believe that is a drop in the bucket compared to how far she will go when she leaves us.  

We are so glad we have had the opportunity to work with and know Kayla, and wish her well upon her graduation.  She tells us she will stop by whenever she passes through Bloomington.  Please do, Kayla!  We can catch up over a beer.  Your brand, of course.

 

Our Graduates: Lianna Sholty

Annie Sholty hails from Logansport and joined the BUSP IC at the beginning of her sophomore year.  In no time at all, she became a very valuable member of our staff.  She was a recipient of the Caught in the Act Award last spring semester.  With majors in Psychology and Criminal Justice and a minor in Counseling, Annie plans to do social work and case management for troubled youth after leaving IU.  Later on, she intends to get her master's degree so she can work in marriage and family counseling.  

Annie claims to appreciate her position at the IC because she is able to work with "such amazing co-workers and extremely caring and supportive supervisors."  (Ah Annie, you make us blush.)  Here is her parting wish for you:  "Take every single opportunity to try something new, to travel, to meet new people, and to have fun! You're only young once, and these four years at IU go by SCARY fast."  She also advises you to enjoy this job while you have it, because she thinks her supervisors spoil the staff.  (Here we go blushing again.)

We could wish Annie luck as she leaves us, but she has so many good things going for her that luck just isn't necessary.  Instead Annie, we'll just say congratulations to you and best wishes for a most wonderful future. It has truly been a pleasure working with you. 

 

 

 

Our Graduates: Zoe Weaver

Congratulations to Zoe Weaver, a senior who joined our staff in the spring semester of her freshman year. She quickly earned our respect, and has been a recipient of the Caught in the Act Award.  Zoe will be graduating with a major in Arts Management and minors in Music and Marketing.  She came to us from Fort Wayne and hopes to leave us for Nashville, TN, where she recently interviewed for a coveted job. (If they are smart, they will hire her.)  

Zoe's favorite thing about her time at BUSP has been getting to know her co-workers.  She advises those of us she leaves behind to use the resources (including the people) that are available to us.  She also suggests you cherish every moment you have left at IU.  

We are so glad our paths have crossed with Zoe's.  It's been such a pleasure having her on our staff.  Thanks for all, Zoe, and best wishes for a happy future.  You will be missed!

 

 

 

Our Graduates: Anastasia Papadatos

We are so fortunate to have had Anastasia Papadatos on our staff.  She is a graduating senior from Munster with a major in Public Financial Management.  Anastasia began her employment at the I.C. at the beginning of her first semester at I.U. and has been a much valued part of BUSP since then.  We are grateful that in addition to spring and fall semesters, Anastasia spent two summers on the staff as this gave us a wonderful opportunity to get to know her better. 

According to Anastasia, several things have kept her here as a part of the I.C. these past four years. First and foremost, she says she appreciates the great group of people that are her co-workers and supervisors.   She also readily admits she enjoys the birthday cupcakes and the finals week care packages. Anastasia has formed some valuable friendships with other staff members, so her advice to you as she leaves is to take time to get to know your co-workers.  She believes you’ll be glad you did.

It's going to be very hard to say good-by to Anastasia, but we have to do it.  It's time for her to fly. Her plans for this summer include interning as a financial representative.  After that she is hoping to land the job of her dreams out West.  Wherever life takes you, Anastasia, we wish you the very best. Congratulations to you!
