Christina's New Title
Christina has worked with us for more than a year now as the Interim Head of the Business/SPEA Information Commons. During that time she has greatly improved our services and our climate. Nearly a month ago she interviewed for the position of Head of the IC, and late last week she was offered the position and accepted it. So Christina is here to stay, and this is definitely something to celebrate! Watch for upcoming details...

Reference Portal...More Than Just Statistics
We all know the importance of the Reference Portal...keeping track of the number of questions and the kinds of questions we answer. We all know the Library Powers-That-Be use these statistics as a tool in determining how much money to give BUSP to hire and pay people like you.
But there's more to the Reference Portal than that. We also use it as a staff communication tool. Most of the postings there refer to reference questions that students ask, and you can ignore them. But sometimes postings have to do with broken equipment, lost items, etc., and may help you assist guests that come to the desk. Take a glance at it when you clock in by clicking on "desklog" in the banner running along the top of the site. Then switch back to "questions" so you're ready to record the questions our inquiring guests ask. Thanks!

Important! Be Aware and Be Safe...
E-mail Terry (treynold@indiana.edu) when you have read this message.
A student named Dominique Key has been banned from campus because of volatile behavior. At this time, we have no physical description of this man, but if he should try to check out any of our materials, politely excuse yourself from the desk and inform your supervisor at once. We will need to contact the police.

Room Reservation Reminder
Just a reminder that room reservations can only be made in person at the desk. Phone reservations are not accepted. Why, you may ask? People who take the time to come to the desk and make a reservation are much more likely to keep that reservation. Also, we want to see the person's ID to verify their identity when they make the reservation. And that's really difficult to do over thephone!

Thank You!
Thanks goes to Ross, Charles, Talie, TeKeia, Erin, Emily, Annie, Ari, Anna, and Adam. All of these great people have agreed to sub for another this month. By subbing, they are ensuring that our desk is covered and our guests are receiving the care they need and deserve.

Kissing
Here are some interesting facts from an article in the Seattle Times about kissing:
--The average woman kisses 79 men before she marries.
--Americans spend an average of two weeks of their lives kissing.
--Men who kiss their wives good-by before heading off to work, generally make more money than men who don't kiss their wives before heading out the door.

About Spring Break
Spring Break is now only a month away. A few of you have asked me if you're required to work your hours during the break. The answer to that is: NO WAY! Enjoy yourself...you deserve that. You are only responsible for your shifts until we close at 6:00 on Friday, March 8. If you work Sundays, you are responsible for your shift on March 17. Anyone subbing on March 17 will receive one full hour of time bank credit for each hour worked, instead of the usual hour half credit for each hour worked. This makes subbing on Sunday, March 17, a good way to beef up a sagging time bank balance.
So you know...BUSP will be open Monday-Friday from 8:00-5:00 during the break. If your plans include sticking around Bloomington and you would like to work some hours, talk to Terry.

Caught in the Act
Erin, Anastasia, and Ari were Caught in the Act of dealing with one of our most irate guests ever! The anger was brought on by a miscommunication regarding our group rooms. The three of them kept their cool, while Erin straightened out the situation and got everyone where they needed to be.

A New Resource for Directional Questions
It's happened to all of us...A guest approaches the desk and asks directions to a room that we're unfamiliar with. There is no need to feel on the spot anymore when this happens, because we now have an icon for that! Check your desktop, and you'll see an icon called IU Building Plans. Here you'll find not only the plans for Kelley and SPEA, but for every building on campus. Getting people where they need to be should no longer be a problem for us. How cool is that? Matt F. was Caught in the Act of finding this information from the IU Architect's Office and adding the icon to our workstations (with permission, of course). To access the information, you will need to log in with your IU username and password. Be sure to log out when you're finished.
