Smiling Faces

Ever wondered the name of your co-worker who comes in just as your shift is ending?  Wonder no more!  Take a look at the Smiling Faces of BUSP posted on the wall above the staff mailboxes.

Not sure where the staff mailboxes are located?  Just ask your supervisor.  He/she will be glad to point them out to you.

Celebration!

Please join us from 2:00-3:00 next Monday, April 1, as we celebrate Christina's appointment as Head of the Business/SPEA Information Commons.  It would be so good to see you there!

Subbing on Sunday, March 31

Have you missed a shift or two and need to pad your time bank balance?  This Sunday will be the perfect time to pick up some hours.  If you sub this Sunday, you  will have one hour added to your time bank for each hour worked, instead of the usual 1/2 hour for each hour worked.

Not sure where your time bank balance stands?  Check with Terry (treynold@indiana.edu).  Do remember that  in order to be eligible for employment next fall, you must end this semester with no less than a zero balance in your time bank.

Why all this strictness regarding attendance?  BUSP can't do without you, that's why.  The work you do is just too important!

Lost & Found

Got someone looking for a lost beloved item?  If it's not in our lost & found cabinet, you can refer the person to our two schools' lost & found.  The Kelley lost & found is located just down the hall from us in Kelley room 141; The SPEA lost & found is located in room 310 of the SPEA Building.

Caught in the Act

Matt F. was Caught in the Act of doing all the work necessary to put our reserve collection in its new arrangement.  Thanks Matt, for using your brain and your muscles to make our reserves easier to find and shelve!

Dates to Remember

Staying for the summer?  Let Terry (treynold@indiana.edu) know by March 25 if you'd like to work at BUSP this summer.

Graduating this semester?  Congratulations to you!  Let Terry (treynold@indiana.edu) know by March 26.

Sign-up for fall semester hours will begin on April 16.  I'll remind you of this as the date approaches.

The BUSP Pizza Party & Awards Ceremony is scheduled for April 25.  More about this will be coming later also.

What Happened to the Reserves?

Good question!  Over the break, they were rearranged.  Some of them were packed together so tightly that they were being damaged.  By spacing them out, we're hoping they'll stay in better shape.  We're also hoping they will be much easier for you to locate and to shelve.  True, you'll have to bend down to reach the ones on the bottom shelf, but at least you'll be able to better see what you're reaching for.

Your supervisor will be orienting you to the new arrangement.  If your supervisor forgets, please remind him/her.  (After all, we're human, and we do forget sometimes.  Not often, but sometimes.)

Thinking of Working at BUSP This Summer?

WELCOME BACK!  Now that Spring Break is over, I'm starting to think about summer.  If you'll be in Bloomington over the summer, and you'd like to keep your paychecks from BUSP coming, let me know.  Either stop by my office or send me an e-mail (treynold@indiana.edu).  Generally, people like to work more hours in the summertime and BUSP can usually accommodate that.  If you have any questions about summer employment, fire away.  Let me hear from you by Monday, March 25.

Caught in the Act and Twitter

Charles was Caught in the Act of suggesting BUSP have a Twitter account as a means to reach out to our guests.  Great idea, Charles!  In truth, the IC has had a Twitter account for some time now; we just haven't used it that much.  We currently have 59 followers.  If you followed us (hint, hint), you'd up our numbers.  You might even learn something about the beloved place where you work.

If you are reading this post, you have great ideas and your opinions are valued, so you tell us...What kind of information should the IU Business/SPEA Information Commons post on Twitter?  Let Christina, Terry, Jeri, or Matt know your thoughts.

Your Responsibility and Your Opportunity

Responsibility:  Just a reminder that you are responsible for your shifts up until the time we close on Friday, March 8.  Your responsibility then picks up again when we open after break at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 17.  If you need to miss any of your shifts, please send a message out to the listserv as soon as possible.

Opportunity:  If your time bank balance is low, subbing on Sunday, March 17, is a great way to give it a boost.  Anyone subbing on the 17th will receive one hour credit for one hour worked, instead of the usual one-half hour credit for one hour worked.

Edible Book Contest & Your Break

Want to keep your mind from getting all mushy over Spring Break?  Keep your creative juices flowing by coming up with an entry for the Edible Book Contest.  The contest has occurred at IU and other universities for several years now.  In the past, only staff members of the IU Libraries could enter, but this year the contest is also open to student employees.  This will make the contest even better, because you have great ideas, right?  Your entry can be a visual pun (like the BUSP 2009 honorable mention Frankenstein pictured below), or it can be in the shape of the book itself.  Need some inspiration?  You can check out photos from past contests here.  The categories of competition include punniest, most appetizing, best use of non-food items, best group submission, best book structure, most creative, best student submission, and best overall.  To enter, e-mail your name or group name, the title of your edible book, and a brief description of your display to jranz@indiana.edu.  Registration ends March 22. Winners will receive a prize, a blue ribbon, and bragging rights.   Whether your submit an entry or not, you are invited to view all the displays and vote for your favorites from 11:00-2:00 on April 1 in the lobby of the Wells Library.

Whether you give time to coming up with a entry for the contest or not, have a great time on your break!  Enjoy yourself.  You deserve it.
