Upcoming Spring Break - What You Need to Know

As the weather gets warmer, we start thinking about Spring Break. While Spring Break itself is still a couple weeks away, here’s some important spring break information relating to the library.

Business/SPEA Library Hours during Spring Break:

Friday March 8th                                             8:00am - 5:00pm
Saturday March 9th - Saturday March 16th    Closed
Sunday March 17th                                         5:00pm - Midnight

Normal hours resume on Monday, March 18th

============================================

What does this mean for library employees?

Monday March 4 to Friday March 8:  The library is open regular hours. You are responsible for working your shifts or finding a sub. Posting sub notices as early as possible is always best. Anyone available to pick up extra shifts during that week, will be greatly appreciated.

Spring Break Week (March 9-16):  The library is closed, so you are NOT required to work.

Sunday March 17th:
Library hours that day are 5:00pm to Midnight. If you work during that time, it would be great if you can make your shift. Otherwise, post a sub notice. If there’s anyone who’d like to help Matt out that evening, so he’s not working alone, it would be greatly appreciated.

Starting Monday March 18:  We’re back to regular hours and business as usual.

For any questions, please see a supervisor.

Have a safe & fun break!!

Some Important Library Telephone Information

In case you haven’t noticed, the phone at the service desk doesn’t ring very loud when someone is trying to call us. We’ve been having trouble hearing when it rings, especially during times when the library is very busy & noisy. As a result, we’ve missed some calls from faculty members.

As we work toward finding a solution, we’re trying something new.

We’ve set it up so when someone calls the main phone number, both that phone & the phone at the reference desk will ring. If you hear the reference desk phone ringing, please check the circulation phone because more than likely there will be a call coming in.

It's important to remember it’s still part of the circulation workers job duties to answer the phone.

Fingers crossed this will help us hear the telephone better & serve our patrons better.

Happy Valentine's Day!

OK, it's the day after so technically, we should have said "Happy Belated Valentine's Day or "Candy on sale today!" Seriously, we hope everyone had a fantastic Wednesday. The bags have been decorated as you can see by the picture above. If you were planning to bring any treats or cards in, please do so by tomorrow. Any time after tomorrow, please feel free to take your bag.

We appreciate all of you and the work you do here at the Business/SPEA Library! 💖

Above & Beyond Award Winner: Chukwuka Ekeocha

We're very happy to announce Chukwuka Ekeocha as a winner of the Business/SPEA Library Above & Beyond Award for the Fall 2023 semester. As a winner, Chukwuka is the recipient of a Target gift card.

Chukwuka was nominated by Ilana, who had the following to say in her nomination:

“Chukwuka (who goes by Chuks) is an MBA student worked extensively on a marketing project in Spring semester 2023. After having such a wonderful experience with our reference team, he asked if there were ways he could work in the library helping to provide similar research help to his peers. We hired him a reference assistant this semester, and he has been a quick study on all things library. He particularly stands out as an all star for volunteering to work a library booth at the Kelley Carnival during one of the over 95 degree days. Not only did he work several hours in the heat, he did it with the enthusiasm and intent of someone who really believes in the library and its mission.”

Congratulations Chuks!

Thank you for going Above & Beyond!

Above & Beyond Award Winner: Kent Meinert

We're very happy to announce Kent Meinert as a winner of the Business/SPEA Library Above & Beyond Award for the Fall 2023 semester. As a winner, Kent is the recipient of a Target gift card.

Kent was nominated by Matt, who had the following to say in his nomination:

“There is an old maxim that goes, “If you want something done, get a busy person to do it.”  Kent, as most of us know, is a very busy man.  As an undergraduate essentially doing the work of a PhD student, he has managed to fill nearly every hour of every day with some obligation or other. In fact, he probably shouldn’t even be here right now – he should probably be at a lab doing lab stuff.  Despite all this, Kent has been unfailingly reliable, dedicated, hardworking, and always willing to pitch in when extra help is needed.  All of which made him an easy choice when we were looking for a new Senior PSA -- a position that has given him the opportunity to apply his own extensive experience in management, which is only one of the many hats Kent has worn in his storied life that includes being a volunteer firefighter, a small business owner, and rap artist, sort of.
For all those things as well as being someone who always has something interesting to say on almost any topic, for being a trusted confidant for the younger staff, and for being an all-around good egg, thank you for going above and beyond.”

Congratulations, Kent!

Thank you for going Above & Beyond!

Above & Beyond Award

At the Business/SPEA Library, one of our core values is great customer service. We believe in rewarding excellent, outstanding customer service when/where we see it. Each semester, we
give out two awards to part-time staff for instances of exceptional customer service that goes “Above & Beyond” when helping patrons.

Remember, we're always on the lookout for situations involving excellent, exceptional customer service. If you see a co-worker performing excellent customer service, please let any of the full-time staff know.
