So Anyway, What Exactly Is Caught in the Act?

Caught in the Act serves as the Business/SPEA Information Commons' formal means of recognizing excellent public service.  This award is given to two Public Service Assistants at the end of fall semester and at the end of spring semester.  Award recipients for fall semester are named at the spring semester All-Staff Meeting.  Recipients for spring semester are announced via the What’s Up with BUSP blog.  Currently, recipients receive a $25.00 Target gift certificate.
To be eligible for an award, PSAs must be nominated by a supervisor during the course of the semester.  All nominees are featured in a blog post describing the reason for the nomination.  Nominations are linked to the Business/SPEA IC’s Core Values:
Service – Positive, friendly, and respectful interactions
Integrity – Honest and conscientious in what we do
People Focused – Dedicated to personal, staff, and community needs
Teamwork – Having fun and working together for the good of the library and community
Knowledge – Committed to learning more and being better

Kate Caught in the Act

Kate has been Caught in the Act of assuming a new public service role.  According to Matt, she is our Stapler Whisperer.  Apparently she has been reaching new heights lately, unjamming FIVE staplers during her shift last Friday.

Thanks, Kate, for making sure our guests' needs are met.  And thanks for saving the IC a bit of money in the process.  Your diligence and your technical skills are much appreciated!

Thein and Brian Caught in the Act

Sometimes it's the little things that count.  Both Thein and Brian were Caught in the Act this week of making things just a little bit better for our guests.  Thein observed that our suggestion box was out of paper.  Brian removed a pizza box from one of our group rooms when he found the room smelling, well, not very good.  Thein's gesture allows our guests to give us some feedback, and Brian's made two hours in a group room much more pleasant for guests using the room after the "pizza party."

Thank you, Brian and Thein, for your consideration and your attentiveness.  You are much appreciated!

Jelena Caught in the Act

Jelena was Caught in the Act of carefully considering our guests needs and relaying an unmet need to her supervisor.  Over and over, she has had guests come to the desk and ask for HDMI cords.  We have none. But because Jelena passed this concern on to her supervisors, we will look into acquiring these items for our guests to check out.  If we can get them, we'll have more people walking away from our desk with smiles on their faces.  And it will all be because of one employee's conscientiousness.

Thanks, Jelena!  Your attention to and concern for our guests needs are greatly appreciated.

C204 Feedback Needed

OK, so my picture is misleading.  We don't need any feedback on the Mercedez C204, but we could really, really, really use some feedback on the library's portion of the C204 class.  Did you take Kelley's C204 class this semester?  If so, Jessica would love to ask you some brief questions to learn what was helpful to you and what wasn't.  If you took C204 this semester, please e-mail her at huffman4@indiana.edu.  Your help would be greatly appreciated, and it may very well make life easier for the next C204 students.  Thanks in advance!

Erin Is Graduating!

Our congratulations go to Erin C., who claims two hometowns:  Bodden Town, Cayman Islands and Nederland, TX.  Erin is graduating at the end of this semester with a Library Science degree.  Her specialization is in Digital Libraries.

While at BUSP, she greatly enjoyed the consultations she had with students at our reference desk.  Showing people how and where they can access the information they want and need brings Erin much pleasure. She will surely be doing more of that in her future as she has been interviewing heavily with university libraries, particularly in the South.

We have been very fortunate to have Erin on our staff, and we wish her all the very best as she prepares to go out into the wide world.  She leaves us with this simple advise:  Enjoy working, you will probably do it for the rest of your life!

Erin, while we hate to see you go, we are so very happy you will be doing what you love.  Know that our best wishes will be following you to your new home.
