Summer Employment

If you are interested in working at BUSP over the summer, let me (Terry) know before April 10th.  If you might be interested in working at BUSP over the summer but can't fully commit yet, let me know that too.

Tyler Caught in the Act

Tyler was Caught in the Act of not only noticing a task that needed to be done, but of also taking the initiative to perform that task.  The giant binder holding the A311 reserve materials was in shambles and very difficult for our guests to use.  You will notice that is no longer the case.  Thank you, Tyler, for so carefully assembling the class materials into a new binder.  Your consideration and attention to our guests' needs is very much appreciated!

Skinny Paycheck

This is just a reminder that the pay you receive on April 10 will cover the week of Spring Break.  If you were out and about and away from BUSP that week, the pay deposited into your account will be less than usual.

Light at the End of the Funnels

We have gotten word that bidding for the SPEA patio construction project begins today. To our benefit, this project will fix our leaky ceiling and eliminate our need for those two fancy plastic rain funnels draining into trash cans. It will also eliminate water from coming into some of our study rooms along the back wall, including 188.  The project will hopefully be finished by the beginning of next fall semester.  If you work with us at BUSP this summer, you will probably hear some construction noise.  If you will be returning next fall, you will be working at the partially new and greatly improved I.C.

New Scanner Close By

Apparently when UITS installed the new printer outside our glass windows, they also added scanning capabilities to that site.  If our scanner is busy, you can now direct people to the scanner just outside the I.C.  On the flip side, you can of course direct guests to our scanner if the one outside the I.C. is busy.

Color Printing Is Closer!

While we still don't have a color printer located inside the I.C., color printing is closer to us than ever before.  The UITS printer on the other side of our glass windows prints in color.  The printer defaults to black and white, so to print in color users will need to use the printer finder and choose IUB_color from the drop down list.

You Could Win $500

The Burgess Undergraduate Library Research Award deadline has been extended to March 27.  Did you use the resources of the IU Libraries to conduct research?  If so, you might want to apply.  The prize is attractive!

Countdown Questions

Welcome back!  I hope you had a wonderful break.  We now have only eight weeks until the end of this school year.  Can you believe it, only eight weeks!

The small amount of time left to us this year, brings some questions to my mind.  Please tell me in person or by e-mail (treynold@Indiana.edu) if any of the following pertain to you:

--You'd like to stay on at BUSP for the summer.

--You'll be graduating this semester.

--You'll be leaving BUSP at the end of this semester for a reason other than graduation.

Thanks!  It's good that you're back.  It was very lonely here without you.

Please Confess

THANK YOU, SHAILA, FOR POSTING THESE SIGNS!

Someone on our student staff recently took the time to make and post signs at our service desk reminding everyone to clock in upon arrival.  I have been encouraging everyone to clock in on time because a high number of missed punches will not benefit our record when federal audit time rolls around.  Since the signs were posted, I have noticed a significant drop in the number of missed punches.  I am curious as to which thoughtful person on our staff made this helpful reminder. Please tell me or e-mail me (treynold@Indiana.edu) so I can give you my thanks.

Carol Caught in the Act

Ideas that will help our guests are always welcome.  This week Carol was Caught in the Act of suggesting a good idea that will soon be implemented.  She noticed that many of our guests are taken by surprise when we close at 6:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, so she suggested we post a sign on our white board alerting everyone to the early closing time.  The sign should be visible to all as they enter the I.C.  Knowing what to expect can be a good thing, and our alerting our guests to our 6:00 closing time should be helpful to them.  A bonus to this is that it will also be helpful to those of us who are locking up BUSP on those weekend days.

Thanks, Carol!  BUSP is so fortunate to have good thinkers like you on its staff.  Thanks also to Kayla, who brought Carol's idea forward to the full-time staff.

Spring Break Hours

Just a reminder that you are responsible for your shifts until BUSP closes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13.  Your responsibility begins again when BUSP opens at 5:00 on Sunday, March 22.  Please post any shifts you will need to miss to the listserv.  Anyone subbing on Sunday, March 22 will receive a full hour of time bank credit for each hour worked, instead of the usual 1/2 hour credit for each hour worked.  If your time bank balance is low, this is an good way to make it healthier.

Whatever your plans are for Spring Break, here's hoping you enjoy it all.  You've worked hard, you deserve some good fun. (You probably don't really need me to tell you that.)  If you travel, take good care.

Time Bank Balances

I just adjusted everyone's time bank totals to reflect hours missed and hours subbed during the month of February.  A few of you have low bank numbers, and I will be contacting those people by e-mail in the next few days.  If you do not receive an e-mail from me on this subject, you can safely assume your balance is very healthy.  If you would like to know your time bank balance, just ask me or send me an e-mail (treynold@Indiana.edu).

Thanks for all you do each week at BUSP.  Your faithfulness and your willingness to help others are appreciated.
