BUSP Photo Directory

Our staff photo directory is here! You'll find it hanging on the wall above the staff mail boxes in our common space. Can't remember the name of the person who replaces you at the desk? Check the photo directory. Curious as to what the kindhearted person who agreed to sub for you looks like? Check the photo directory.

To the left of the photo directory, you'll find our Core Values statement containing all our signatures.

Group Room Use

Ah yes, it's the time of the year when the UCSO uses most of our group rooms for interview purposes. This makes our job at the desk a little easier, but it also means we see a lot of sad faces when we tell our guests that group space is not available.  Here's some information you can give them that might cheer them up a bit:  https://libraries.indiana.edu/rooms-groups-study-or-collaboration

If you're one of the people having interviews in our group space or anywhere else, best of luck to you!

Ethan and Sara Caught in the Act

Ethan
You know all those returned books you check in and put on our routing shelves?  Do you know what happens to them after that?  This semester, they have all been shelved by Ethan and Sara. They work together during a quiet time on Friday mornings and have been rotating turns taking a book truck out into our stacks and shelving the books.  Ethan and Sara, you have been Caught in the Act!  Thank you for the teamwork you are exhibiting.

Core Value:  Teamwork - having fun and working together for the good of the library and the community

HDMI Cords

The next time a guest asks you if we have an HDMI cord, instead of saying "no," say "YES!" They have been asking for them, so we purchased five of them for our guests' use. You'll find them on the shelf underneath our hold shelves. They are available for a four hour checkout. Just scan the attached barcode like you do for our books and keys.

Suzy Caught in the Act

Today we experienced our first group room wait list of the semester. And wouldn't you know it, Suzy was in the Captain's chair without a First Mate for two very busy hours. While the situation was stressful, she was Caught in the Act of greeting guests with a smile as soon as they approached the desk. She handled their requests calmly, kindly, and efficiently.  Way to go, Suzy!  You are appreciated.

Here's What You Do When...

When a guest is giving you a hard time about our policies, or procedures, or anything else, kindly and calmly tell them you would like them to speak to your supervisor.  Then go get your supervisor.

If a guest is asking for something that goes against our policies, kindly and calmly tell them you would like them to speak to your supervisor.  Then go get your supervisor.

It's simple really.  There is no need for you to deal with anyone who is upset or demanding.  It doesn't happen that often around here, but now if it happens to you, you'll know exactly what to do.

Don't worry...be happy!  And get your supervisor to help you.

Rae Caught in the Act

Rae was Caught in the Act of using her voice and her position to help us evacuate BUSP durng last week's tornado warning. The situation called for someone to step up and take action, and Rae rose to the occasion. It's not always easy to get people to leave the IC, even when staying here puts them in danger. Thank you, Rae, for helping us clear the space quickly and efficiently.

Honorable mention for helping with this task goes to Yu-Chen and Jacob L.

For those of you new to BUSP, being Caught in the Act is a good thing! Here is the scoop:

Caught in the Act serves as the Business/SPEA Information Commons' formal means of recognizing excellent public service.  This award is given to two hourly assistants at the end of fall semester and at the end of spring semester.  Currently, recipients receive a $25.00 Target gift certificate.

To be eligible for an award, employees must be nominated by a supervisor or a co-worker during the course of the semester.  All nominees are featured in a blog post describing the reason for the nomination.  Nominations are linked to the Business/SPEA IC’s Core Values of Service, Integrity, People focused, Teamwork, and Knowledge.
