Mouse in the House?

With the cooler temperatures approaching, who could blame a furry little four-footed creature for wanting to reside at BUSP?  One was discovered stuck in a recycling bin when Jeri opened this morning.  Even though their reasoning is sound, until mice can shelve books or make themselves useful in some way, it's best that they go somewhere else.  We can help them make that decision for themselves by being vigilant about food.  Make sure you take good care to clean up after yourself when eating at BUSP.

3-D Printing Available at Wells Library

Ten 3-D printers have been installed on the 4th floor of the West Tower for student, faculty, and staff use.  Read all about it here: http://inside.indiana.edu/editors-picks/technology/2015-09-30-3d-printers.shtml?utm_source=2015-09-30&utm_medium=enewsletter&utm_content=Get-creative&utm_campaign=2015-inside-iub-distribution

Group Rooms on Campus

Got someone standing in front of you looking very sad or at the end of their rope because all our rooms are in use?  Show them some sympathy, then let them know they might find a spot at another library on campus: https://libraries.indiana.edu/rooms-groups-study-or-collaboration  Wish them luck and send them on their way.

Hayden Caught in the Act

Hayden was recently Caught in the Act of going above and beyond his duties to take care of our reserve collection.  He found several books out of order and spent a good deal of time making sure all the reserves were in the proper place.

Thank you, Hayden, for making it easier for us to locate reserve materials in a timely manner for our guests.  Your good work has been noticed and is much appreciated!

First Mate's Duties

Ahoy, Mateys!

Since most of our guests seem to gravitate to the Captain, this allows our First Mate to do other necessary duties.  First Mates are generally responsible for checking group rooms after keys are returned. In addition, they perform the duties listed on the checklist attached to a clipboard next to the First Mate's workstation.  While it's not always possible to get through the entire list, you should be able to do a chunk of the duties listed on the checklist each time you work a shift at the First Mate's station.  Please note the duties you perform on the checklist.

(For all of you BUSP newbies, the service desk chair closest to the reserve collection is the 1st Mate's chair. We refer to the other chair as the Captain's chair.)

Exceptions to the Rule

Got someone in front of you who wants to make a room reservation for three hours instead of two?  Or request a room to use for their office hours?  Or maybe they want you to hold a reserve book until they can pick it up later on today?

Anytime anyone requests an exception to our policies, please get your supervisor. We'll handle it. It's part of what we do to earn our pay.  It also cuts down on the chaos around here.

Room Reservation Policy Reminder

A look at the Room Reservation Notebook shows that we're not all aware of our room reservation policies and procedures.  It's important that we all understand and follow policies and procedures so we don't have angry, frustrated, and disappointed people standing in front of us.  Trust me, that is no fun!

If you are new to BUSP or if you are a seasoned employee and need a refresher, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE check the room reservations instructions posted in the front of the Room Reservation Notebook. Want a demonstration of the correct way to record a room reservation?  See your supervisor.  He/she will be very glad to help you.

If you are one of the people who is having trouble with reservations, don't despair.  It's a bit tricky at first, but you'll catch on...You're smart!
