Missed Punches

Are you doing OK with the new timekeeping system?  One of the advantages of the new Kuali system is that you can fix some missed punches yourself:

  • If you forget to clock in, you can add a missed punch before clocking out.

  • If you forget to clock out, you can add a missed punch if it is within 24 hours of the clock-in time.  Note that missed punches can only be made on our service desk workstations, so if you remember you forgot to clock out when you're at home or on the other side of campus, you cannot fix that yourself.  In that situation, send me an e-mail just like you did in the good old days.

Only one missed punch action is allowed per shift.

Here's a quick video that will demonstrate adding a missed punch: http://www.fms.indiana.edu/kualitime/Missed-Punch.swf

Have questions or need help?  As always, see your supervisor.

Birthdays & Cupcakes

Oh boy, next Wednesday is cupcake day at BUSP.  We'll be celebrating two special people:

Anastasia (Feb. 6)
Brooke (Feb. 15)

Happy birthday to our February births!  Due to a special request, we'll be having chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter cream cheese icing.

Spring Break

The warm temperatures and melting snow today have got me thinking about Spring Break.  Here's the lowdown on your commitment to BUSP during the break period:

--You are responsible for all shifts previous to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14th.
--You are responsible for all shifts starting at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 23.

Please post sub notices in advance for any shifts you will miss.  Anyone subbing for a co-worker on Sunday, March 23, will receive one hour of time bank credit for each hour subbed, instead of the usual 1/2 hour for each hour subbed.

Are you sticking around Bloomington for the break?  If so, and you'd like to earn money instead of spend money, talk to me (Terry) about hours.  Your supervisors would enjoy your help and company!

Keeping BUSP Healthy

Sharing is great, except when it comes to our germs.  If you feel a little under the weather, suspect you're coming down with something, or are recuperating after an illness, do all of us a favor and wipe off the keyboard at the end of your shift.  You'll find some antibacterial wipes at the desk.  Of course if some crummy, lousy, no good germs have you tight in their grips, by all means make good use of our listserv, get your rest, and feel better as quickly as you can.

By the way, we're really a strong bunch this year!  Usually by this time of the semester, so many more of us are sick.  Maybe the cold is killing the germs before they have a chance to attack us?  If so, that is one reason to appreciate our sub-normal temperatures.  One reason...can anyone think of another?

Hours Available At NMBCC Library

Would you like to add two more hours to your weekly schedule?  My colleague at the Neal Marshall Black Culture Center needs someone to cover a shift each Thursday from 9:00-11:00 a.m.  If you are interested, contact Marianna at bcclib@indiana.edu.

Important! About Room Reservations...

BUSP policy states that ROOM RESERVATIONS CAN ONLY BE MADE IN PERSON.  ROOM RESERVATIONS CANNOT BE MADE BY PHONE.

Why are we such sticklers about this?  It’s because it’s too easy to make a reservation over the phone just in case you might need to use the space.  Only serious inquirers will come to the desk to make a reservation.  Experience has taught us that by limiting reservation requests to “in person only” we have very few cancellations.  When we take requests over the phone, we have many cancellations.  Our goal is to make the rooms available to as many guests as possible.  We can better accomplish this by having only serious reservations made in person.

Got somebody on the phone who is upset because you won’t take their reservation?  Politely let them know you’ll get your supervisor to talk with them.  Remember that your job does not entail dealing with irate or upset people.  Let your supervisor handle those guests.

Ross Caught in the Act

Ross was Caught in the Act bright and early last Wednesday morning.  (Well, at least early...it probably wasn't all that bright at 8:00 a.m.)  Because of the bad weather, our janitors apparently did not make it here to clean up BUSP as they usually do on Tuesday night.  Ross took a look at the mess and decided to do something about it.  He had BUSP all spruced up in no time, making it a much pleasanter place for our guests to be.  If you worked last Wednesday, Ross's initiative also made BUSP a nicer place for you to be.

Thank you, Ross.  Your effort and conscientious housekeeping skills are much appreciated!

Nearest Color Printer Location Change

You've been telling people that the nearest color printer is in Business 101, right?  Beginning next Monday (Feb. 10), Business 101 will be used as a classroom, so unless you're working in the evening or on the weekend, it will be best to tell guests that the nearest color printer is across the street in the Wells I.C.  Using Business 101 as a classroom is a temporary thing while construction goes on, but the lab will be out of commission a good deal of the time for at least the next six weeks.

We'll keep you posted as to when you can again tell people that the nearest color printer is in Business 101.  Who knows, maybe one of these days you'll be able to tell people that the nearest color printer is right here in the BUSP computer lab.  Wouldn't that be nice?  But for now, it's the Wells I.C.
