Valentine's Day Treat Bags Activity

Back by popular demand, we’re doing Valentine’s Day Treat Bags again this year!! For those of you who are new to the library, this may be similar to something you did in elementary school It’s meant to be a fun activity to show your creativity. This activity is strictly voluntary. If you choose to participate, you are welcome to decorate a bag.

If you want to, you can bring in little cards or candy for all of your co-workers to enjoy. You are not expected or required to do this. If you choose to do this, please make sure you bring enough for all employees. We have 31 people on staff (including full-time staff) this semester.

From January 30th to February 12th, each person can decorate a bag for Valentine’s Day. Supplies to decorate bags can be found on the table in the back office. Those already decorated bags will be put up on the wall above the back table and/or lined up along the back table.

Between February 12th & 16th, anyone who wishes may put little cards, notes or treats inside the bags. If you participate in this part, please bring enough items for everyone’s bag. The goal is a team building exercise with fun & enjoyment.

Feel free to take your bag home any time after February 16th.

Winter Weather & Library Operations

We're in the winter season and that means winter weather, so it’s a perfect time to talk about adverse weather as it relates to the library.  Since this is Indiana, we can expect all kinds of weather, especially during the winter.

What is expected of you during winter weather?

The library is open for normal operations during the winter. This means you are expected to work your shifts or find a sub during normal operations times.

What happens if classes are cancelled?

There are times when classes may be cancelled but the university will not go to “limited operations” which means the library operations will continue as normal.  If the library is open, you are expected to work your shifts or find a sub.

What happens if the campus goes to limited operations?

If the campus goes to limited operations, this means only essential personnel are expected to come to work. In this instance, the library will likely close. WE WILL SEND OUT AN EMAIL TO ALL LIBRARY STAFF ABOUT A CLOSURE AND THE EXPECTED RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATIONS.  WATCH YOUR EMAIL!!!

There may be times when we, as supervisors, will make the decision to close the library early and/or open late due to bad weather conditions:

This will happen any time the “Monroe County Travel Status” goes to red meaning they don’t want people traveling on the roads. WE WILL SEND OUT AN EMAIL TO ALL LIBRARY STAFF ABOUT A CLOSURE AND THE EXPECTED RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATIONS.  WATCH YOUR EMAIL!!!

Winter Weather in Bloomington

Please always check the weather and dress appropriately for being outside. Make sure to wear layers, coats, hats, gloves & boots. When walking, walk carefully, watch for ice, slick sidewalks and plan on it taking longer for you to arrive at your destination. If driving, drive slower than normal, plan on longer stopping distances when braking, watch out for other drivers, watch out for slick spots on the roads, and plan on your commute taking longer than normal.

The library will be CLOSED on Monday, January 15th in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

As a reminder, the library is open regular hours on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. So, if you work on any of those days, you are responsible for working your shift or finding a sub.

Enjoy you day off!

Happy New Year!!!

After a long haitus, involving a worldwide pandemic among other things, we're coming back & planning on making this blog active once again. We're hoping to reduce the amount of "for your information" type emails you receive.

Each time you come into work, take the time to  check in on this blog site. It will be bookmarked on all the computers. Remember, you are responsible for knowing the information posted at this location.
