Sydney Caught in the Act

Sydney was Caught in the Act last week.  As many of you kindly do, she agreed to sub for another PSA. She ended up working five straight hours during a busy time of day, much of it alone because of another employee's illness..  Not the world's easiest thing to do!  Even so, she managed superbly.  Each guest was greeted at the desk by her warm smile.  With some juggling, fast thinking, and good organization, she was able to quickly handle all of our guests' needs at the desk that day.

Thank you, Sydney, for the good work that you do. It is much appreciated by our guests and by your fellow staff members.

Birthday Celebration Next Wednesday

Next week is turning into a week of parties at BUSP!  Wednesday we'll be celebrating these fine people who have October birthdays:

Suzy (Oct. 3)
Jessica (Oct. 15)

Come grab a cupcake in their honor anytime that day.

Lost from Our Lost & Found

Sunday evening a white I-phone charger was placed in our lost & found file cabinet.  It had the owner's name attached to it.  When the owner came to pick it up, it was nowhere to be found.  She rightfully wants her property back.  If you know anything about a white phone charger in our lost & found, please let Terry (treynold@indiana.edu) know.

Thanks for all.

Time Change for Melanie's Celebration

Remember that party we're having on October 29 to celebrate Melanie's 17 years at BUSP?  Please note that the time of the party has been changed to 4:00-5:00 p.m. that day.

Hope to see you there!

Walt Caught in the Act

Walt was good enough to remind me that our printers are more prone to jam when we fill the paper trays too full.  So now I am passing that reminder on to you. We've been having a lot of trouble with paper jams lately, and while filling the paper trays properly will by no means solve all of the problems, it will definitely help.  One thing for certain, fewer jams equal happier guests.  Thanks Walt, for being so conscientious. You have been Caught in the Act!

Not sure how full to fill the trays?  Check with your supervisor.

The Bitter and the Sweet

Melanie has informed us that her last day at BUSP will be October 29.  She began her work here 17 years ago as a student employee manning our reference desk while she worked on her library science degree. Once she got her master's, she was quickly hired into her present position.  Melanie and the good work she does are both going to be terribly missed.  That's the bitter part.  The sweet part is the way Melanie's face lights up when she talks about the volunteer work and the traveling she plans to do.  No doubt, she'll be spending extra time in her beautiful garden too.

It's been our very good fortune to have Melanie on our staff for nearly two decades.  We'll be celebrating the years she spent with us and her new plans on October 29 from 3:00-4:00.  Mark your calendars and stop by to wish her well.

Thank you!

Heartfelt thanks to the good fairy who cleaned the inside of our microwave.  My guess is there was no magic wand involved, just a lot of good elbow grease.  Whoever you are, know that your effort is much appreciated!

Core Values Statement

I've printed a poster of our agreed upon core values statements and will be bringing it around for your signature.  Once all signatures have been obtained, the poster will hang next to our photo directory.

Service.  Integrity.  People Focused.  Teamwork.  Knowledge.  We demonstrate these qualities each time we're behind the desk at the I.C.  Aren't our guests lucky people?

Our Photo Directory Is Here!

You'll find all of BUSP's smiling faces on the 2015-2016 photo directory hanging above the staff mailboxes.  You can use it when you want to see what the kind person who subbed for you looks like.  Or when you're having trouble remembering the name of the person who works the shift after you.  Or any time you feel like looking at all our smiling faces!

Are You Remembering the Portal?

Are you remembering to log all questions on the Portal that do not result in a check-out?  Remember, doing so helps ensure your job security.
