Annie Caught in the Act

Annie did not let the Out of Order sign on the printer deter her from helping students who needed to print.  She worked her magic on the printer, cleared the jam, and made it operational again.

Sometimes we just do not know what we can do until we try.  Annie took the time to try and was successful.

Thank you, Annie!

A $500 Prize

Did you use the IU Libraries to conduct research for a stellar project this year?  If so, you are encouraged to apply for the Sam Burgess Undergraduate Library Research Award.  You'll find info and guidelines at http://go.iu.edu/9JM.  The winner will be recognized and receive a $500 prize.  Who wouldn't like that?

It's in the Bag

Got a guest at the desk who is checking out a lot of books and doesn't have an easy way to carry them?  If they ask if we have a bag, you can tell them yes.  Our IU Libraries plastic bags are in a box on the bottom bookshelf just to the left of the 1st Mate's chair (under the book desensitizer).

Two More New Faces

Yes, it's true...it takes three people to equal our one Christina.  In addition to Nels, you may see two more new faces at the Reference Desk.  One is Nicholas Wyant (photo unavailable), Social Sciences Librarian.  The other is Lou Malcomb (photo below), Head of Government Information.  We are very grateful to Nicholas and Lou for helping us out while Christina is gone.  Please give them a hearty BUSP welcome when you see them.

Anastasia Caught in the Act

Anastasia was Caught in the Act of shelf reading our collection of reserve books.  She took this task upon herself to make sure all the books were in order and would be easily found when needed by a guest.

Thank you, Anastasia, for your initiative and your keen eye for detail.  Your work is much appreciated!

The New Guy at the Reference Desk

Have you met Nels?  If you work Thursday evenings, you've probably seen him manning our reference desk.  Nels will also be at BUSP for some hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, giving us a hand while Christina is on leave.  Nels isn't new to BUSP; he's only new to you.  He was a member of our staff for a good many years, serving in the capacity of reference librarian and assistant head.  When BUSP was remodeled a few years ago, he transferred to the Reference Department at Wells.  We're glad to have Nels back for this temporary stint.
When you see him, give him a big BUSP hello.

Talie Caught in the Act

Last week Talie was Caught in the Act of giving excellent customer service.  The professor at the desk was a bit frantic because he had trouble getting onto campus, his class was slated to begin in just a few minutes, and he needed to print out a document for that class.  Sitting in the Captain's chair and without a 1st Mate, Talie made sure the Reference Assistant saw that she was leaving the desk.  She guided the distraught professor to our lab area and gently walked him through the printing of his document on a public computer, step-by-step.  He was so grateful!  And so are we. Thank you, Talie, for your excellent customer service and your exemplary professionalism.

Wanna Help Make Kids Happy?

Christina has some dear friends who will be taking a group of college students to Haiti over spring break.  They will be building a playground, as well as working with some schools there.  They are in need of plastic screw tops (like those on water bottles, milk cartons, etc.) to use for educational games.  I've put a red basket on our break tables.  If you are so inclined, please throw your bottle caps in the basket.  Christina will be on maternity leave any day now, but she will come in to collect our bottle caps.

Every little bit counts.  This is an easy way to do a little bit.  THANKS!

Technology Presentation on Friday (24th)

SPEA will be holding an interactive presentation on technology services at IU in SPEA's classroom 167.  Past experience tells me people will stop here and ask where the presentation is being held. Be prepared to get them there.

Thanks for all.

New PSA on the Block

Say hello to Suzy Fritz, our newest Public Service Assistant.  Suzy is a Marketing major, who has spent time studying in BUSP.  We're glad she'll now be spending time behind our service desk.

Welcome, Suzy!

IUCAT Change

A change in IUCAT has streamlined the process for requesting books, making it less confusing for you and for our guests.  Now instead of separate buttons for Request Delivery and Alf Delivery, IUCAT users will see just one button, which can be used to place requests for items housed at all IU Library locations.  Look for the new "Request This" button when searching for items in IUCAT.
