Room Reservation Policy:
Rooms 154, 156, 158, and 160 may be reserved up to a week in advance for
groups of two or more, except during I-Core and finals week.
Reservations are limited to one 2 hour period per group per day. The
group member requesting the reservation must present his/her university
ID at the service desk when making the reservation and also when picking
up the key at the reserved time. Keys will only be checked out to the
group member who made the reservation. Keys not picked up within ten
minutes of the reserved start time will be made available to others on a
first come, first serve basis. Reserved rooms may be renewed for
another two hour period as long as the room is free for the next two
hours and no wait list exists. Fines for keys returned late accumulate
at the rate of $10.00 per hour or any part of an hour.
Note that groups (not just an individual in a group) are limited to one two hour reservation per day. This means that if Joe and Sally are in a group and Sally has made a reservation for Tuesday, Joe cannot make another reservation for them later on Tuesday. It isn't always easy to police this part of the policy, but we do the best we can in fairness of all groups wanting rooms.

Spirit Days
Want to join your staff members in showing your school
spirit on some of the game days? The dates below have been chosen as BUSP
Spirit Days. Wear your IU colors to work if you so choose. (This is not a
requirement, of course. Nor will you be sent home if you wear cream and crimson
on days not included on this list. You might be asked to remove any basketball hoop hats worn at the desk, though!)

New Duty for 1st Mate's Chair
Are you sitting the 1st Mate's Chair? (It's the one closest to our entrance and our water fountain. If so, once an hour we'd like you to do a "walkabout." What's a "walkabout," you may ask? It's simply a time to leave the desk, and walk around the IC. It's a time to have your eyes open to the facility, ensuring that all is in order. If you see a mess, please clean it up or report it to your supervisor. If chairs are wildly out of place, please return them to their proper spot. (Assuming no one is sitting in them, of course!) A sheet will be kept at the 1st Mate's Chair so you can record your walkabouts on your shift. Please place your initials by the hours listed after you have completed your walkabout.
Other duties of the 1st Mate? Those would include keeping the bookdrop empty by checking in returned books and placing them in order on the shelves behind the desk. Once the shelves near capacity, it's the 1st Mate's job to transfer the books to a book cart. The 1st Mate is our primary group room examiner when keys are returned. Always, always, the most important job of the 1st Mate and the Captain is to serve our guests who need our attention.

Super Glue Shenanigans
An e-mail from Lindsay (one of our night supervisors) alerted me to the fact that our custodian has found evidence of people using super glue inappropriately in the IC. Example: a cigarette was glued to the wall between group rooms 178 and 180. Hmmm...not sure why anyone would want to do such a thing. I'm going to assume it's from too much stress. In any case, let's be vigilant. When checking rooms, helping guests away from the desk, etc., keep your eyes open. Maybe if we're more watchful of them, guests with super glue will be more watchful of themselves.
Any time you see someone damaging the IC, its furniture, equipment, or its collections, let your supervisor know immediately. Thanks!

Zombie Apocalypse
As Halloween nears, it seems appropriate to mention the Zombie Apocalypse. Check out Matt's blog post on BUSP's website, as it is very informative.
Come to think of it, you might also want to check out non-Zombie related blog posts on our website. You can do that by looking at the Latest News section on BUSP's front page.

New Discharge Message
Ever checked in a returned book and had a funny message appear on your screen? These messages prompt us to action. Your part of the action is to give that book (along with the slip if one has printed) to Jeri. If she is not here, leave it in her mailbox.
Before long, you may occasionally run into this newly created message: Recall/Reserve Billed, **For Supervisor**. So what do you do when you see this? The same as above...give it to Jeri or place it in her mailbox.
Not sure where Jeri's mailbox is? Ask your supervisor. He/she can show you.
